The Appeal

Produced for a staggering eighteen years and with a wide range of engine sizes and configurations available, the R107-generation Mercedes-Benz SL was among the most successful pen-topped grand tourers of all time. With its 3.8-litre V8 and five-speed automatic transmission, the 380 SL offers a refined driving experience that has only grown in appreciation over the decades.

This 1985 example is accompanied by an extensive history file with service records stretching back to its earliest miles, beginning with the initial inspection at just 3,277 miles. The car was maintained by Mercedes-Benz main dealers including Reliance Motors, London Road Garage, Rivervale Reading, and Lancaster Hertford before passing into the care of respected independent specialists such as Colin Ferns and SS Motors. Having been dry stored for approximately five years, the vendor reports the bodywork and underside to be in very good condition. The interior has been retrimmed in leather, which the vendor describes as being in very good condition. Fitted with a facelift bottom skirt and alloys, and supplied with a matching hardtop, this 380 SL has a lot going for it.
