Description
Inspired by the “Sebring” cars of the 1960s, this lovely example is the ideal road racer. Finished in the original colour of 'Blaze Orange', the restoration was carried out around five years ago to what appears to be a very high standard. Dean told us the car has had a 2 stage 4 layer ceramic protection around 2 months ago. The images are taken from a range of angles to show the car as you would see it in person, so please take the time to fully assess the high-resolution photos and videos before forming your own opinion of the paintwork. Walking around the MG, the bodywork presents exceptionally well, with nicely fitting panels and even gaps. There are two leather buckle straps on the bonnet and boot lid, adding to the race-style theme. You will also notice the bumpers have been removed as part of the “Sebring” theme, giving the car a clean look. The vinyl roof is in good condition, with no damage to the vinyl or plastic windows spotted. Also included with the sale is a rear half roll cage. We've highlighted our observations in more detail through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves. The dashboard is in good order, with no damage spotted. The instruments present well and are all working correctly, with the odometer showing ~44,849 miles at the time of our visit. Behind the wheel of the 1972 MGB Roadster, it delivers a wonderful traditional sports-car experience. The upgraded 2.0-litre engine provides plenty of character and a stunning tone, while the precise steering, compact dimensions and four-speed manual gearbox make it great fun on a twisty road. The whole package of engine, styling, and handling makes it a fantastic, fun British sports car. The windows look to be in good condition, with no noticeable scratches or damage spotted other than the odd age-related mark. The headlights and rear light units are all in good condition, with no damage to the lenses, and the chrome surrounds have a bright finish with no tarnishing. Please view the photos and video below to review the condition of the glass and trim for yourself. Minilite-style wheels have been fitted, which use an adapter to make them centre-locks. Perfect for easy removal. They are finished in silver and are all in good order, along with the chrome knock-offs. The tyres are a matching set of Hankooks, which all have plenty of tread remaining. Please take the time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels and tyres, so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn or over 10 years old. The original seats have been retrimmed in black leather - these are in excellent condition, with no real signs of age. Throughout the cabin and boot, the carpets have been replaced and are in excellent condition. There is also a set of MG rubber mats, which are also in great condition. The original 1.8-litre has been bored out to 2.0 litres and built to a fast-road specification, running on a single Weber carburettor, a Kenlow fan to keep the temperature under control and, surprisingly, an exhaust usually found on a Triumph TR5, which sounds fantastic. Dean told us since he took ownership he has had an electronic ignition fitted to the MGB. The engine runs with no issues reported by Dean, and the car pulls strongly through the four-speed gearbox, which has overdrive fitted and is working correctly. All the switchgear in the MG appears to be in good condition and is said to be working correctly. There isn’t really any history paperwork, so to speak, as the car was built and maintained by the previous keeper, who had owned it for approximately 4 years, who bought it from the previous owner who he know who owned the car for around 32 years. Even though it’s not needed due to its age, the MG has been given a fresh MOT, leaving it ready for the new keeper to enjoy with full peace of mind that it’s in great order. We’ve carried out our usual seller checks, including photo ID and V5 verification, as well as a history check on the vehicle. This is a professional HPI check that will highlight if the car has previously been stolen, recorded as being involved in an accident or has any outstanding finance. Please note, this does not include a mileage history check. We’ve summarised our own view of the car based on information provided by the seller; however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video each car in high-resolution detail so you can make your own assessment from the comfort of your home. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time reviewing everything in this listing. Viewings are also welcomed on all our listings. Please get in touch to arrange a suitable time; we just need to speak to you first and receive valid photo ID before confirming. If there’s anything you’re unsure about, no matter how small, please ask the owner in the comments section before placing your bids, as bids cannot be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car, just like at a traditional auction house. As the car is set up for fast-road use, a full set of Spax adjustable dampers has been installed, and keeping everything nice and tight are a full set of poly-bushes. No knocks or bangs were heard during our test drive, and the car handled great. Upgraded Wilwood aluminium brake calipers have been fitted along with upgraded discs, which bring the MG to a stop in a straight line. A leather Moto-Lita steering wheel replaces the original and is in good order. The gear knob has been modified with an additional toggle switch to activate the overdrive.
