Description

KEY FACTS

  • This Land Rover Series II 88” is a charming classic British 4x4, benefitting from some prior refurbishment and a recent soft-top.
  • Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 2.25-litre inline-four, which sends its power to all four wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.
  • First registered in October 1959, this example is noted to have an older repaint, and to be fitted with a desirable galvanised chassis.
  • The odometer indicates 88,387, though this is not warranted.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • This Series II 88” is finished in attractive Tamar Blue with a galvanised front bumper, over a body-coloured cabin, with black vinyl upholstery and black rubber matting.
  • It rides on 16-inch steel wheels painted white and fitted with Michelin 4x4 tyres.
  • Equipment includes a bonnet-mounted spare wheel, sliding windows, a three-spoke steering wheel, Jaeger gauges, an oil pressure gauge, folding rear benches, a high- and low-range gearbox, a power take-off, and basic heater and ventilation controls.
  • This Series II is fitted with a Sand-coloured Exmoor Trim soft-top and replacement seats. The ‘middle seat’ was replaced with a central armrest with cup holders.
  • The car comes with the V5C, a few history documents, and a Haynes manual.
  • The seller notes that the car is also accompanied by its hard-top roof and one key.

CONDITION

  • Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition.
  • Specific notes from the seller include: the vehicle has been repainted in Tamar Blue in the past, and the chassis has been galvanised. The seats have been re-upholstered, and new wheels have been fitted.
  • The vehicle is understood to be exempt from mandatory MOT testing due to its age.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • The seller notes the latest service was during February 2026 at 88,123 miles.
  • Prior to this, a previous owner reported that it was serviced during April 2024 at approximately 88,000 miles by D & R James Engineering Services. This reportedly included a replacement head gasket, pistons, main bearings and water pump, and refurbishment of the injectors. The brake cylinders, drums and shoes were also replaced on all four corners.

SUMMARY

This Land Rover Series II 88” is a distinctive and capable classic British 4x4, offered for sale benefitting from some relatively recent mechanical refurbishment and replacement of the soft-top roof and seats. With ‘go-anywhere’ all-terrain agility, it should prove to be a very usable addition to any collection, which would make a fun weekend adventure vehicle or summer cruiser.
