The Appeal

The Bentley Continental R marked an important moment for the Crewe marque. Introduced in the early 1990s, it was the first Bentley for many years to feature bodywork not shared with a Rolls-Royce, giving it a distinct identity and helping to reassert Bentley’s sporting-luxury character after decades in the shadow of its sister marque.

Powered by Bentley’s turbocharged 6.75-litre V8, the Continental R offered serious performance in a traditionally luxurious package. It was large, imposing and hand-built, with the kind of richly trimmed interior and effortless long-distance ability associated with a flagship Crewe coupé.

This 1994 example is finished in Diamond Blue Silver over a Silverstone leather-trimmed interior, a restrained combination that suits the car particularly well. The specification is suitably generous, including heated and electrically adjustable front seats with memory, cruise control and Bentley’s traditional ‘Town’ and ‘Country’ horns.

More than three decades after its introduction, the Continental R remains a genuinely special car to spend time with, possessing a sense of occasion that few modern grand tourers can quite replicate. Whether kept for club events or occasional weekend use, it is sure to deliver many more miles of enjoyable motoring at the hands of its new custodian.
