The Appeal

For lucky owners, the Triumph Stag tends to be one of those cars that gets under the skin. Whether that’s down to the burbly V8, the spacious four-seat cabin, the practical handling or those crisp Michelotti lines, these are cars that reward use.

The current keeper of this tidy Mk1 Stag proves the point. He has owned it since 2004, using it regularly, including European trips, most recently to Austria in 2023. It is a smart and generally well-kept car that retains its 3L Triumph engine fitted to a desirable 4-speed manual overdrive gearbox. It is supplied with both hard and soft tops, as well as a windbreak.

The vendor has maintained the car himself, with assistance from specialists as needed. He tells us that work has included a full engine rebuild in the past. More recent work includes a new propshaft, driveshaft and rear hub bearings. It is a sign of the seller’s approach to maintenance that it comes with a current, advisory-free MOT, despite this no longer being a legal requirement.

If your classic interests revolve around using and enjoying, this is the kind of car you hope to find.

The vendor says:

“So all in all a very `usable` car, yes, there are a few bits and pieces of body work that if you are picky would need looking at in the next year or so. I will be sorry to see her go as she has been a part of our family life for 25 years but due to other classics, the Stag is not getting the use it once did and it`s a shame to just leave her doing nothing. I have set a sensible reserve and if it doesn`t sell I will keep it.”
