The Appeal
It’s a mark of just how good the XJS is that 16 years into its life it was deemed worthy of a serious rejuvenation to enable it to live even longer. These final ‘facelift’ cars are desirable because at their heart is the tough and reliable AJ6 4.0-litre straight six engine. The bodies were also galvanised for longevity, and the interiors received better quality fittings.
For various internal reasons, for two years the early facelift cars retained the stylish chrome bumpers of the previous generation. This mix of old and new is popular with enthusiasts and adds to the appeal of this very tidy 1993 convertible. It is a very rare ‘triple black’ car with matching paintwork, interior and roof.
XJS aficionados will note that it presents well in the photos in the usual check areas of arches, sills and floors. The current MOT bears this out, showing no advisories for structure or otherwise. Inside and out, it is in good order and pleasingly factory correct, including the lattice alloys, burr elm veneers and Jaguar sound system. In summer 2026 the car was recommissioned with work including new fuel tank, pump, filters and injectors, full service, gearbox fluid change, new tyres and brakes serviced. Buyers should note that the roof is not currently working.
Any XJS convertible offers a level of serenity, comfort and character that its German rivals struggle to match. This 4.0-litre facelift car adds to those qualities with its impressive specification and condition.

The vendor says:
"First registered in January 1993, this Jaguar XJS 4.0 Convertible is finished in black with a Black leather interior and is powered by the 3,980cc straight-six engine with automatic transmission.
"The car currently shows 80,970 miles and is supplied with two keys, its original Jaguar book pack, stamped service record, a substantial collection of historic MOT certificates and a large file of invoices.
"The car has previously carried the registrations MRW 144 and MIA 870, with the chassis number remaining consistent throughout the historic paperwork.
The current mileage is therefore exceptionally well supported by the surviving documentation. The Jaguar has covered only 859 miles since May 2007, including just 82 miles between the 2018 and 2026 MOT tests."

The vendor says:
"The car is finished in black with black leather and retains its period alloy wheels. It presents as an older, usable example rather than a restored or concours car, with age-related cosmetic marks and imperfections. The black leather interior also shows normal age-related wear and patination, while retaining its original wood trim and period appearance."
"The electric convertible roof is currently inoperative and requires attention. The rear quarter windows lower when the roof sequence is operated, but the main fuse blows when the hydraulic roof pump motor engages. The fault is therefore believed to be within the hydraulic pump/motor assembly or associated mechanism and will require further investigation."
