The Appeal

When it was launched in 1988, the R129 represented a huge step forward in sophistication for the Mercedes-Benz SL, introducing multi-link rear suspension, seat belts integrated into the front seats, and a hidden, automatically extending roll-over protection bar. The model, reckoned by many to be the last Mercedes-Benz to feature the marque’s trademark ‘over-engineered’ quality, evolved significantly over the years, with new engines and features such as clear indicator lenses, updated front wing vents and side airbags, which this example benefits from.
