Description

Highlights

  • Left-hand drive example, originally specified for the European market
  • One of only 2,654 built
  • In one family's ownership for some 20 years
  • Supplied with both soft top and fibreglass hard top
  • Desirable manual transmission
  • Accompanied by a quantity of small spares and two service manuals

The Appeal

Conceived by Edward Turner - the man behind the legendary Triumph Speed Twin motorcycle - the Daimler SP250 was loaded with glamorous, sporty character with just a gentle dose of rebellion. The fibreglass body may have seemed a little unusual, even for the ever-daring '60s, but it carved out a unique niche, and became a distinctive addition to a highly competitive market.
The SP250 paired a 2,548cc V8 with a tonnage of only 940kg, which resulted in genuine 120mph performance. Quite the proposition, and with only 2,654 built before Jaguar gobbled up the Daimler brand, it's a proposition that has only grown sweeter and more exclusive over the years.

This left-hand drive example spent some 20 years in one family's care, reportedly a favourite in the household and regularly pressed into service for continental touring. Thanks to that bright green livery, there's no doubt it's a headturner!
