Description
The Background.
Introduced in 2002, the Jaguar S-Type R combined retro-futuristic styling reminiscent of the original 1963 S-Type with aggressive, understated performance cues. Developed by Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations team, it combined traditional luxury saloon comfort with genuine high-performance credentials. Power was provided by the renowned 4.2-litre AJ-V8 fitted with an Eaton M112 supercharger and generating 400bhp and 400lb/ft, paired with a ZF six-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels with a performance-tuned CATS adaptive suspension system. The numbers were impressive with a BMW M5-rivalling 0-60 in 5.3 seconds and a (limited) 155mph.
The 'R' variant stood out from standard models through 18-inch alloy wheels, a monochromatic wire-mesh grille, deep front and rear aprons, side skirts, and a subtle lip spoiler on the boot lid. With its refined chassis, understated styling and effortless performance, the S-Type R offered a compelling alternative to its German rivals whilst retaining Jaguar's distinctive character.
The Car:
Recently imported from Japan, on offer here is a right-hand drive 2004 Jaguar S-Type R finished in Midnight Pearl Metallic with a contrasting two-tone black and yellow leather interior. It has covered just 58,600 miles which is supported by the service history and offers the opportunity to acquire a well-preserved example of Jaguar's supercharged sports saloon.
Factory specification includes touchscreen navigation and multimedia, dual-zone climate control with air conditioning, heated and electrically adjustable front seats with memory settings, premium sound system, cruise control, multifunction steering wheel, parking sensors and factory Xenon headlights.
The vehicle retains its original panels and paintwork throughout and is reported to be totally corrosion-free, with no aluminium oxidisation evident. The interior remains in clean condition, with the two-tone leather trim presenting particularly well.
After import, it has been prepared to full UK specification, including UK satellite navigation, UK lighting, MPH instrumentation and full-size UK number plates. It is HPI clear and benefits from standard UK insurance premiums.
Recent maintenance includes a fresh service completed prior to sale.
Supplied fully UK-registered with a V5C and MOT, this S-Type R presents as a highly original and well-specified example of Jaguar's supercharged V8 performance saloon.
