The Appeal
Anyone can go out and buy a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, but its Bentley-badged sibling is a whole different proposition. Minus the Rolls' imposing front grille, atop which perches the rather ostentatious 'Spirit of Ecstasy', the Bentley T2 is an altogether more subtle affair. The discerning choice of a rarified few; just 558 were ever made of which it's thought fewer than 15 may still on the road.
When the vendor acquired this 1977 example over the winter, it was found to be in need of work, which has duly been carried out by renowned specialists, including Hawk Classics. While there is still some scope for further cosmetic improvement, this Bentley represents a solid and well-sorted foundation for its next keeper, having passed an MOT test with no advisories. We're informed that the car required significant welding work, all of which has been carried out to a very good standard. It has also received a thorough service, new screen rubbers front and rear (at great expense), and some remedial fixes to the electrical system. Previous significant investment in mechanical upkeep included a £5,000 gearbox rebuild and brake calliper replacement in 2015.
With comprehensive documentation dating back to 1978 and having covered just ~20,000 miles in the last 25 years, this T2 represents a rare opportunity to acquire an original and thoroughly gone-through example of this most superior of luxury saloons.
