Description

Highlights

  • Former field ambulance - ideal for a camper conversion
  • Two former registered keepers
  • In current ownership for approximately 12 years
  • Maintained by Land Rover specialists
  • No accidents or damage reported during current ownership

The Appeal

It's rare to find a Land Rover Defender without a diesel engine. Most Defenders are diesel, and most of the rest carry the thirsty Rover V8. This 1990 110 has the rarer 2.5-litre petrol four: smooth, quiet, and a development of the long-stroke engine that powered Series Land Rovers for decades.
It began life as a field ambulance, and a previous keeper later converted the roof to its current form. It spent a long period off the road before the vendor bought it in 2014, which accounts for the modest mileage.

Since then it has been used as intended, with trips from London to Scotland and to Burgundy by way of Champagne, and it has been maintained throughout by Land Rover specialists. It is honest rather than restored. There is an undiagnosed engine knock and a slightly rich mixture, and some corrosion to the rear crossmember and roof rack. Both faults are photographed and described below. It is being sold only because the vendor now needs room for a baby seat.

Key Information

  • Mileage: 75,454 miles (indicated)
  • Country of registration: United Kingdom
  • Technical inspection status: MOT valid until 28th August 2027
  • Technical specs: 2.5-litre petrol, five-speed manual, low-range/4wd
  • Paperwork: vendor advises service history is available

The Detail

  • Originally a Field Ambulance; roof changed to its current configuration by a previous owner
  • V5C records three registered keepers
  • Sat for a long period prior to the current owner's purchase, contributing to the relatively low mileage
  • Fuel pump, fuel filter, and exhaust replaced by Land Rover specialists
  • Clutch serviced by Land Rover specialists
  • Some undiagnosed knocking from the engine noted by the vendor
  • The vendor notes the engine also appears to run a bit rich
  • A few minor dents in the bodywork and some signs of corrosion to the rear crossmember (photographed)
  • Underside not inspected by the owner but expected to show some signs of age (front vehicle structure corrosion advisory on MOT)
  • Roof rack showing signs of corrosion
  • Interior believed to be original with no frills
  • Cage fitted separating the front from the back
  • Two bench seats added on each side by the current owner
  • The vendor describes it as very fun to drive but not suited for everyday traffic or motorway use
  • Factory standard specification
  • Stored outside and reported to have held up well
  • Being sold as the owner requires a vehicle that can accommodate a baby seat
