Description
A wonderfully distinctive example of Fiat’s wonderfully capable compact 4x4, presented in impressive condition and fitted with a selection of characterful period-style accessories.
Paint
The metallic grey paintwork presents very well, retaining a consistent finish and attractive sheen across the car.
The colour works particularly well with the black exterior protection and red detailing, giving this Panda a much more purposeful appearance than a standard road-going example.
Only a handful of very small scratches and age-related imperfections were noted during our visit. These appear minor and are consistent with normal use rather than neglect.
The decorative stripes and 4x4 graphics also remain in very good condition, contributing greatly to the car’s distinctive period character.
The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.
Bodywork
The bodywork presents to an impressive standard for a Panda of this age.
The panels appear straight, with even-looking shut lines around the doors, bonnet and tailgate. We did not notice any significant dents or obvious areas of bodywork damage during our visit.
The car is fitted with substantial tubular protection bars at the front and rear, adding to its rugged appearance. Four auxiliary lamps are mounted across the front, with two clear lamps above and two yellow lamps below.
Black plastic bumpers, wheel arch extensions and side mouldings provide a strong contrast against the grey bodywork. The bold red and grey side graphics and prominent 4x4 decals complete the period appearance.
As expected from a car of this age, there are a few minor scratches and small age-related marks, although these are limited and do little to detract from the Panda’s excellent overall presentation.
The metallic grey paint, exterior trim and distinctive 4x4 graphics all present impressively, while the interior appears to have been carefully preserved. The twin folding roof panels are also in good condition.
We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.
Dashboard
The Panda’s full-width dashboard shelf is a masterpiece of simple, functional design, providing an unusually generous amount of storage space within such a compact car.
The dashboard, instruments, vents and switchgear all present very well. The controls are clearly labelled and logically arranged, reflecting the uncomplicated engineering found throughout the rest of the vehicle.
A period Panasonic cassette radio is fitted beneath the main controls, accompanied by additional security equipment. The dashboard also retains its Veglia Borletti analogue clock.
The instrument faces remain clear, and the various plastic mouldings appear free from significant cracks or damage.
Overall, the dashboard and surrounding trim have survived extremely well and retain the distinctive character of the original Panda interior.
The drive
The Panda 4x4 offers a driving experience quite unlike that of a modern car.
Its compact dimensions, excellent visibility and light controls make it exceptionally easy to place on the road. The five-speed gearbox is straightforward to use, while the very short first ratio adds genuine versatility when travelling over steeper or more challenging surfaces.
Once moving, the steering feels light and communicative. The suspension remained composed, and no unwanted mechanical or suspension noises were noticed during our drive.
Performance is modest by modern standards, but the responsive engine and low weight give the Panda an eager and cheerful character. It feels equally at home travelling along narrow country lanes, navigating busy towns or exploring surfaces that would challenge many larger vehicles.
With the twin folding roof sections open, the experience becomes even more enjoyable, filling the otherwise simple cabin with light and fresh air.
Glass and trim
The exterior glass, lamps, badges and plastic trim all present in excellent condition for their age.
The headlamps, rear light lenses and auxiliary lamps appear clear, while the Fiat and Panda 4x4 badging remains present and in good order. The black bumpers, protective bars, side mouldings and wheelarch extensions also appear well preserved.
One of this Panda’s most appealing features is its twin folding fabric roof. Both sections are shown folded back in the photographs, creating a wonderfully open and airy cabin. The roof material appears to be in good condition, with no significant damage noted during our visit.
Rubber seals and window surrounds also appear presentable, while the large windows contribute to the excellent visibility for which these cars are known.
Please view the photos and video below to review the condition of the glass and trim for yourself.
Wheels and tyres
The Panda is fitted with its correct compact steel wheels, finished with silver Fiat wheel trims.
The wheels and trims present well overall, with no significant damage or heavy corrosion apparent during our visit. Their simple appearance suits the practical character of the car perfectly.
Vredestein Snowtrac tyres are fitted and appear to retain a good level of tread. The winter-pattern design is particularly appropriate for a lightweight four-wheel-drive car intended to cope with poor weather and loose surfaces.
A full-size spare wheel is carried beneath the bonnet, as originally intended.
Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.
Seats and carpets
The front and rear seats are trimmed in attractive grey and beige patterned cloth.
The upholstery presents extremely well, with no significant marks, tears or areas of heavy wear noted during our visit. The front seats retain their shape, while the distinctive open-centre head restraints remain in excellent order.
The matching fabric across the dashboard shelf and door cards is similarly well preserved, helping the cabin feel remarkably complete and consistent.
Carpets and floor coverings also present well, with only minimal signs of use. The luggage compartment appears clean and practical, with a fitted parcel shelf and useful period-style storage organiser.
Please take a look at the photos and video below to decide on the condition of the seats and carpets for yourself.
Engine and gearbox
The 999cc FIRE four-cylinder engine started immediately during our visit and ran very well.
It responded cleanly and provided the eager, willing performance expected from a lightweight Panda. No unwanted engine noises or obvious running concerns were noticed during our time with the car.
Power is delivered through a five-speed manual gearbox, which operated smoothly and selected each ratio cleanly.
The unusually short first gear is especially useful when negotiating inclines or travelling over loose ground. In normal driving, it is possible to move into the higher ratios quickly, where the Panda settles into its familiar and engaging rhythm.
Please watch the mechanical and on-the-road videos to hear the engine starting and running and to see the car being driven.
Electrics and other
The Panda’s electrical system is refreshingly straightforward, with conventional switches controlling the lighting, ventilation and other essential functions.
The dashboard is fitted with its original-style switchgear, analogue clock and a period Panasonic cassette radio. Additional security equipment is also fitted.
The car benefits from twin manually folding fabric roof panels, removing the complexity associated with electrically operated roof systems.
No specific electrical concerns were reported to us.
History and paperwork
Sadly no collection of previous servicing invoices, stamped maintenance records or earlier expenditure documents was available for us to photograph. Consequently, prospective buyers should base their assessment on the car’s present condition, the extensive photographic gallery and the accompanying videos.
Importantly, the Panda performed very well during our visit. The engine started immediately, the five-speed gearbox changed smoothly and the steering, brakes and suspension operated without any obvious concerns or unwanted noises.
The bodywork, metallic grey paint, exterior trim and distinctive 4x4 graphics all present impressively, while the interior appears to have been carefully preserved. The twin folding roof panels are also in good condition.
The buyer will need to apply for a new registration certificate (V5C); a V62 form will be supplied.

Suspension and brakes
The suspension performed very well during our drive, with no unwanted knocks, rattles or other concerning noises noted.
Despite its compact dimensions, the Panda feels reassuringly composed and absorbs uneven surfaces effectively. Its ground clearance and simple suspension design also contribute to its well-earned reputation for coping with difficult terrain.
The brakes felt positive and brought the car to a stop without any obvious pulling or vibration.
The steering was similarly reassuring, feeling direct and consistent throughout our journey. Although there is no power assistance, the car is sufficiently light that the steering never feels unnecessarily heavy.
Overall, the suspension, steering and braking systems performed as expected from a well-presented example.
Steering wheel gear stick
The simple Fiat steering wheel presents in excellent condition, with no significant wear visible around the rim or centre section.
These cars were not fitted with power-assisted steering, but the Panda’s compact dimensions and low weight mean the steering remains light and easy to manage. On the road, it felt direct and positive without any obvious concerns.
The five-speed manual gear lever also presents well and operated smoothly during our drive.
