Description

KEY FACTS

  • This Ferrari 365 GT is a rare and elegant 2+2 grand tourer, finished in a stylish factory colour and benefiting from specialist maintenance over the last 10 years.
  • Under the bonnet is the 4.4-litre ‘Tipo 245’ Colombo V12, producing around 320hp, with rear-wheel drive via a five-speed synchromesh manual gearbox.
  • Understood to have been supplied new to Italy via Crepaldi Milan in September 1970, it was later imported to the UK, where it has had three registered keepers.
  • The odometer shows 63,515 km, but this is not warranted.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • The 365 GT was Ferrari’s first model to feature power-assisted steering and air conditioning as standard, and with larger proportions compared to its 2+2 predecessors, it could seat four adults in comfort.
  • The other notable feature was Koni self-levelling independent rear suspension, which helped to counteract the effects of passenger and luggage weight at the back of the car.
  • Just over 800 examples of the Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 were built between 1967 and 1971, making it rarer than either the 365 GTB/4 Daytona or Dino 246 GT, which would have appeared alongside it in showrooms during the era.
  • This example is finished in Azzuro Hyperion over a Nero leather interior with elegant wood inlays, which is reported to be the original factory colour combination.
  • It rides on 15-inch five-spoke Cromodora alloy wheels with three-pronged hubs, wrapped with Michelin XWX tyres.
  • Equipment includes Veglia Borletti dials, a three-spoke wood-trimmed steering wheel, air conditioning, electric windows, and a radio with an electric antenna.
  • Accompanying the vehicle will be a history file with copies of the original Italian registration, its V5, the owner’s manuals, and various maintenance invoices.
  • One ignition key will be supplied.

CONDITION

  • Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition.
  • Specific notes from the seller include: various small areas of wear around the car, paint lifting on the passenger door.
  • The interior leather is believed to be original, but was treated to refurbishment work by Furniture Clinic in September 2015 at a cost of £1,500.
  • The seller notes that the car will benefit from a service due to a period in professional storage.
  • The most recent MOT test was on 22 April 2021 at 63,375 km, which was a first-time pass with no advisories.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • The most recent maintenance was carried out in May 2021 at 63,375 km by Ferrari specialist Barkaways. This included an annual service with engine oil and filters, top-up of the gearbox oil, new air filters, brake fluid flush, adjustment of the alternator belt, new rotor arms to correct a misfire, new fuel hoses and replacement of some wiring connections, wax oil application to the suspension and underside, and a general inspection.
  • In 2019, Barkaways carried out an annual service, replaced the fuel pipe running from the pump to the filter, some new coolant hoses, new wiper blades, flush and refill of the air-conditioning system along with a new drier, fitment of new exhaust heat shields and heat-proof flooring, and refurbishment of the passenger window motor to improve its operation.
  • Prior to this, various work was undertaken by Ferrari specialist Foskers, including fitment of new headlamp bulbs, an auxiliary 12-volt socket, new seal rubber, lubrication of the driver’s door mechanism and clutch cable, and replacement of blown speakers and stereo.
  • A new set of tyres was supplied and fitted in February 2017 by Ferrari specialist Rardley Motors.
  • An extensive list of work was undertaken by Ferrari specialist MDS Services in October 2016. This included an overhaul of the brake callipers and master cylinder, and deglazing of the discs; a strip and rebuild of the gearbox; refurbishment of the torque tube and new differential pinion seal; fitment of a new clutch, release bearing, and clutch cable; fitment of a new stainless-steel exhaust silencer; and repair of the alternator.
  • In July 2015, MDS Services carried out repairs to the left fuel tank and hinged boot floor, repaired a light switch stalk, converted the air-con system to R134a refrigerant, and installed spacers on the rear suspension.
  • MDS Services carried out a suspension overhaul in January 2015, replacing both rear spring and damper units, as well as new rear spring pads. The timing chain tensioner assembly was also removed in order to replace tappet screws, the cam shafts were cleaned and refitted, cam timing checked and adjusted, and the valve clearances adjusted. New spark plugs and ignition leads were installed, and various seals and gaskets were also renewed.

SUMMARY

This Ferrari 365 GT 2+2 is a rare classic grand tourer, finished in eye-catching Azzurro Hyperion, and benefiting from extensive maintenance work carried out by specialists in the UK over the last 10 years. With elegant styling that captured some of the magic of the 500 Superfast and 365 California, it would make a charming addition to any collection of lesser-seen Italian classics.
