The Appeal
Ferrari has been keen to reinvent itself of late, but if history has taught us anything, Maranello's engineers and designers often produce their best work when they stick to what they know best. The Ferrari 550 Maranello marked a triumphant return to Ferrari's signature front-engined, rear-wheel-drive V12 grand tourer formula, and it was met with near-universal acclaim upon its 1996 launch.
With its naturally aspirated 5.5-litre V12 mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, it offered a driving experience that was at once thrilling and refined; a proper long-legged GT in the finest Ferrari tradition. Today, it is rightly revered as one of the last of a breed, and demand among collectors and enthusiasts continues to grow.
This 1999 example has been in the seller's family for approximately 10–12 years, having been acquired by the seller's father. With 4,825 miles on the odometer, it has clearly led a sheltered life and its condition reflects this. Finished in classic Rosso Corsa over Crema leather with contrasting Bordeaux stitching and carpets, it is accompanied by a full set of new, unused 550 luggage, its original leather wallet, book pack, tool kit, and both key sets.
For those seeking a remarkably well-preserved Ferrari 550 Maranello with a six-speed manual gearbox and a straightforward ownership narrative, this is a compelling opportunity.

The Condition
- Finished in Rosso Corsa over Crema leather with contrasting Bordeaux stitching and carpets
- 4,825 miles from new; the vendor describes the car as a highly original example throughout
- Full set of new, unused Ferrari 550 fitted luggage included
- Original tool kit present
- Headlamp seals replaced in July 2016
- Inner door handle adjusted in July 2016
Such is this car's remarkable state of preservation, it's hard to believe it is now in its 27th year. That Pininfarina styling, reminiscent of the 365 GTB/4 Daytona, has aged very gracefully indeed and looks wonderful in the quintessential Ferrari scheme of Rosso Corsa paintwork over Crema leather. Consistent with its minuscule mileage and a lifetime of careful maintenance, this 550 shows remarkably few signs of age throughout, with only the smallest imperfections, which are outlined in the photographs. The addition of factory luggage is the cherry on the cake.
The Mechanics
- 5.5-litre naturally aspirated V12
- Six-speed manual gearbox
- Service now due; last serviced in September 2023 at 4,236 miles by Graypaul Birmingham
- Cambelts last replaced in July 2016 at 4,042 miles by Graypaul Classic Cars
- Air conditioning system re-gassed in July 2016
It's an unbeatable combination: naturally aspirated V12 and a gated manual gearbox. These cars are wonderful to drive, and this example is as fresh as one could ever hope to find with just 4,825 miles under its belt. While now due for a service, the well-documented maintenance record shows this to be a well-kept car, ready to meet its next custodian.
