Description

KEY FACTS

  • A highly sought-after and increasingly collectible turbocharged four-wheel-drive performance coupe, representing one of the final right-hand-drive examples of the legendary original Audi ‘UR’ Quattro.
  • It is powered by a turbocharged 2.2-litre inline-five engine, driving all four wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.
  • This UK-market example was first registered in August 1989, and has recently been acquired by the seller.
  • The odometer indicates 28,429 miles. The seller advises that Audi replaced the speedometer at 8,497 miles in March 1990, which would therefore equate to 36,917 miles, which the seller believes to be the genuine total.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • This Quattro is finished in the striking shade of Tornado Red with subtle gradated black Audi ring decals on the doors, over a black and Eton Check cloth-trimmed interior.
  • It rides on a set of 15-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels fitted with Dunlop SP Sport 9000 tyres.
  • Equipment includes a top-tinted windscreen, a heated rear screen, a rear screen wiper, a manually operated sunroof, a locking differential, electric windows, a Blaupunkt Toronto cassette stereo, an orange digital instrument cluster, heater and ventilation controls, and heated front seats.
  • It is accompanied by a large history file containing documents, servicing invoices and receipts, together with the owner’s manuals, the partially stamped service booklet, and two ignition keys.

SUMMARY

The original Audi UR Quattro remains one of the most significant performance cars of the 1980s, combining pioneering permanent four-wheel-drive technology with the distinctive character of its turbocharged five-cylinder engine. This late-production right-hand-drive example is presented in a bold factory colour combination, and boasts a well-documented history. Offering the analogue driving experience and rally-bred pedigree for which the model is renowned, this UR Quattro would make a compelling addition to any collection of significant modern classics, while remaining an immensely rewarding car to enjoy on the road.
