Description

Who would have thought one affordable, simple car would become one of the most legendary vehicles ever produced?

Paint

Finished in an off-white that we believe matches the original, the paintwork presents well, with no obvious blemishes.

The images are taken from a range of angles to show the car as you would see it in person, so please take the time to fully assess the high-resolution photos and videos before forming your own opinion of the paintwork.

Bodywork

The Beetle received a body restoration around 2019, before it was used as a wedding car.

The doors have a visually equal gap, all the panels appear to align correctly, and no dings or dents were spotted.

We’ve highlighted our observations in more detail through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take the time to review all media files to assess the car’s condition for yourself.

Dashboard

The metal dashboard is painted to match the body and presents well.

The single instrument cluster is working correctly and shows approximately ~70,303 miles.

Nigel is uncertain if the heat exchange system is fully working - this is due to only using the vehicle in good weather, however, he said he'd get that checked out before the end of the auction.

The drive

Driving a Beetle is a wonderfully nostalgic experience for those who have owned one in the past, and for those who haven’t, it’s a refreshing change from modern cars.

The air-cooled flat-four engine delivers modest performance, but its unhurried pace has real charm, backed by a distinctive engine note from behind.

Beetles never fail to turn heads.

Glass and trim

The windows appear to be in good condition, with only some light age-related marks, as expected for their age.

The window seals are also in good order due to being replaced as part of the refurbishment.

The chrome headlight surrounds and bumpers all have a bright finish, with no visible signs of tarnishing.

All of the lights are in good order, with no damage to the lenses.

Please view the photos and video below to review the condition of the glass and trim for yourself.

Wheels and tyres

Fitted with the original steel wheels, these are finished in body colour and are in excellent condition. They are topped off with a set of chrome VW hubcaps, which are also in excellent condition.

The tyres are a matching set with a whitewall stripe, and all have plenty of tread remaining.

Please take the time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels and tyres, so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn or over 10 years old.

Seats and carpets

The original seats have been retrimmed in cream vinyl - they have no rips or holes, although there is a slight stain on the corner of the passenger seat.

The carpets have been replaced and are in excellent condition, showing very little sign of use.

Seat belts are not compulsory for vehicles of this age of course, however it looks like a pair of 'after-market' belts were fitted at some point. Nigel tells us the driver's belt doesn’t work at present but that will be sorted before the auction ends.

Engine and gearbox

The 1200cc engine fires up quickly on the turn of the key and runs without any reported issues.

Nigel had a new starter motor fitted in June 2026.

The Beetle pulls well through the four-speed gearbox, with no problems reported.

Electrics and other

One nice thing about classic cars of this age is the lack of electrics! Everything is there for a reason and works correctly.

There is some light age-related wear to the switches, but this is in keeping with the car's age.

Nigel has recently noticed, since we visited the vehicle, that the driver's side wiper doesn't do a full span of the screen - he will also get this checked out before the end of the auction and provide an update.

History and paperwork

The Beetle’s history file is quite comprehensive, with a collection of invoices retained by several keepers over the years for various parts and different work carried out.

As a previous wedding car, presentation is absolutely key. This 1972 example is very well presented and ready to jump in and enjoy.

We’ve carried out our usual seller checks, including photo ID and V5 verification, as well as a history check on the vehicle. This is a professional HPI check that will highlight if the car has previously been stolen, recorded as being involved in an accident or has any outstanding finance. Please note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We’ve summarised our own view of the car based on information provided by the seller; however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video each car in high-resolution detail so you can make your own assessment from the comfort of your home. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time reviewing everything in this listing.

Viewings are also welcomed on all our listings. Please get in touch to arrange a suitable time; we just need to speak to you first and receive valid photo ID before confirming.

If there’s anything you’re unsure about, no matter how small, please ask the owner in the comments section before placing your bids, as bids cannot be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car, just like at a traditional auction house.

Suspension and brakes

On the road, the ride is typical of a VW Beetle; it does what it should, and the ride is comfortable, even over speed bumps, where no knocks or bangs were noted.

The brakes bring the car to a stop in a straight line, with Nigel reporting no issues.

Steering wheel gear stick

A three-spoke wooden steering wheel has been fitted to the Beetle and is in excellent condition.

The gear knob is golf ball-style and in good condition.
