Description

KEY FACTS

  • This Aston Martin DB6 is a handsome classic sporting GT, benefiting from an extensive history file, and a conversion to manual gearbox specification.
  • Under the bonnet sits a 4.0-litre straight-six, delivering up to 282bhp and 280lb-ft to the rear wheels through a retrofitted manual transmission.
  • First registered in April 1967, this DB6 originally left the factory with the automatic gearbox, but was later converted to manual specification as well as being colour-changed and having a Webasto sunroof installed during the 1980s.
  • The car was purchased by the seller’s family from Richard Stewart Williams in London in April 1984.
  • The odometer indicates 29,950 miles, though this is not the correct total. A letter from the original owner dated 1976 states that around 5,000 miles should have been added to the reading at that time, due to a faulty instrument being replaced. Furthermore, historic MOT test certificates show a mileage of 37,247 miles in 1982, and then a readout of 3,701 miles in 1983. It is therefore assumed that a new odometer was fitted shortly after the 1983 test, and with the additional 5,000 miles added on too, it would mean that the total mileage is now approximately 72,500 miles.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • The successor to the Aston Martin DB5, the DB6 features a Kamm-tail rear end for improved high-speed stability, split front and rear bumpers, a redesigned oil cooler aperture in the front valance, a higher roof line, and a longer wheelbase.
  • Originally specified in the Olive Green hue, the car was repainted in a Gun Metal Grey hue, in the 1980s, complementing the natural hude cabin which features a body coloured dashboard.
  • It rides on 15-inch wire wheels, fitted with Bridgestone Dueller H/T tyres.
  • A copy of the original paperwork from 1967 shows the original specification as including a heated rear screen, power steering, and powered aerial.
  • Equipment includes heating and ventilation controls, electric windows, a full complement of Smiths instrument dials, Webasto sunroof, opening quarterlight windows, a wood rim steering wheel, and Pioneer radio/cassette player.
  • The car is accompanied by an extensive file of paperwork.

  • A major refurbishment was carried out in 1988-1989, which included a rebuild of the engine, stripping the car to bare metal and repainting in Gun Metal Grey, and converting the car to manual gearbox specification. The total invoice came to £19,319 – equivalent to over £70,000 today.

SUMMARY

Produced between September 1965 and January 1971, the Aston Martin DB6 swiftly became an iconic British grand tourer with notable improvements over its DB5 predecessor. This particular car is believed to remain highly original inside, while the exterior benefited from a repaint during the 1980s, as well as a conversion to manual gearbox specification and fitment of a Webasto roof. It could be a great candidate for another enthusiast to gradually improve, or a charming classic to enjoy as-is.
