- Completely redesigned from the previous 240, 260 and 280Z models, the 280ZX was aimed squarely at the US-market, with softer suspension, more sound insulation, more comfortable seats and greater levels of luxury equipment including power steering and high end audio
- From the 280Z it retained only the L-28 inline-six and other driveline components
