The Appeal

The R170 brought a new class to Mercedes-Benz's repertoire - the SLK (sportlich (sporty), leicht (light), kurz (compact). It came to the market with a clever little party trick in the form of an electro-hydraulic hard top. It was a sleek, attractive and high-octane little machine, powered by a supercharged 2.3-litre straight-four and a refined ride quality that perfectly suited the well-to-do executive.

This particular example has a remarkable provenance. Ordered new to the owner's specification in 1998, it was used lightly in dry, sunny conditions in the Cayman Islands before returning to the UK with its owner in 2001, where it was registered with an age-appropriate plate. Since then, it has been garaged, regularly serviced and MOT'd, covering very few miles. Accompanied by an extensive file of paperwork including the original sales order, this is a fabulous proposition.
