Overview
If you're looking to get into Porsche ownership the 996 represents one of the best value used models money can buy while still delivering everything that makes the 911 such a rewarding car. It may be on the cheaper end of the spectrum, generally speaking, but that doesn't make it any less of a hugely engaging and incredibly impressive machine, especially in top spec turbo guise like this desirable 2002 X50 example.
With a 3.6-litre version of the venerable M96 water-cooled flat-six engine the twin-turbo setup originally bumped power to 414bhp. Yes, that's the same engine that featured in the Le Mans-winning 911 GT1 race car. Combine all of that performance with a trick four-wheel drive system and a manual gearbox (as is the case with this car) and that aforementioned engagement hits its peak. Styling was also beefed up slightly and the turbo models still look good to this day.
The X50 package, as seen here, included larger turbochargers and intercoolers as well as a revised exhaust and ECU setup that further boosted the 996 Turbo's power to 444bhp, allowing for a 0-60mph time of just four seconds along with a top speed of 192mph. As far as driver's cars go then this black 996 Turbo X50 ticks a lot of boxes and comes to market in superb condition throughout.
On the rarer end of the 911 spectrum it's furnished with an impressive mostly main dealer service history as well as an advisory-free MOT and looks to have led a cherished existence, wanting for nothing and reportedly driving exactly as it should.

Summary
Looking suitably menacing in its black on black colourway – an aesthetic that perfectly suits its beefed-up performance credentials – this rare Porsche 911 996 Turbo X50 is a stunning example of what was at the time of production one of the fastest road cars in the world. Still impressive today and truly engaging to drive this beautiful low mileage and highly desirable 911 comes fully serviced and fastidiously maintained.
