The Appeal
The MGA marked a bold new direction for MG when it arrived in 1955, replacing the traditional upright styling of its T-series predecessors with a sleek, aerodynamic body that looked every inch the modern sports car. It became one of the most successful British sports cars of its era, and today remains one of the most accessible and rewarding classics to own and drive.
This 1959 example was imported from Australia in 2006, where its previous owner, a mechanic, maintained it to a high standard and regularly showed it. Now finished in British Racing Green following a respray carried out over seven years ago, it is reported to be highly original with no known modern-day modifications. The vendor states that the shell is exceedingly solid and the car has never been welded, thanks to its Australian provenance and the wax-oiled underside, which is said to show no signs of deterioration.
Since arriving in the UK, the car has been dry stored and never taken out in the rain, yet it has clearly been enjoyed on the road. The vendor describes it as a joy to drive and notes the pleasing exhaust note. The interior has been recovered with leather seats, and the car was evidently cherished; the vendor's daughter even used it for her wedding.
