Description

With an improved suspension setup, the later TR4A got even better with IRS. Finished in what appears to be Signal Red, the bright red paintwork is excellent and presents extremely well. There are a couple of very minor chips, mainly noted on the edge of a couple of panels, which would be very easy to touch in. The images are taken from a range of angles to show the car as you would see it in person, so please take the time to fully assess the high-resolution photos and videos before forming your own opinion of the paintwork. The bodywork presents extremely well, with even panel gaps and no dings or dents. It’s also worth mentioning that, during the 2011 restoration, a new chassis was fitted, which is a huge plus point for the longevity of the TR4A. We’ve highlighted our observations in more detail through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take the time to review all media files to assess the car’s condition for yourself. The black vinyl dashboard is in good condition, with just a small amount of damage to the vinyl on the lower section. The wooden fascia is free from damage and presents well. All the instruments appear to be working correctly, and the odometer shows ~34,649 miles. Taking you back to the golden age of British motoring, the Triumph TR4A IRS is an engaging drive, just as you would expect from a classic car. Thanks to the IRS (Independent Rear Suspension), the ride is smoother than the previous version and handles much better with the more modern setup. The windows appear to be in good condition, with only light age-related marks, as expected for the vehicle's age. The window seals are all in good order, with no signs of perishing. The chrome work has a bright finish, with only minor tarnishing noted. The front and rear lights are free from damage. A black vinyl roof is fitted, which could possibly be the original, and is in good condition with no damage. Please view the photos and video below to review the condition of the glass and trim for yourself. Fitted with period-correct chrome wire wheels, these are in excellent condition, with just a small amount of tarnishing between the spokes. A matching set of Michelin XZX tyres is fitted, which all have a good amount of tread remaining. Please take the time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old. The original seats have been replaced with some slightly bigger seats that offer more comfort. The fabric is generally in good condition, but there is some wear on the driver's bolster. Fitted with black carpets, these are in good condition with no real signs of heavy use. Inside the boot there is a spare wire wheel, which looks like it’s never been fitted. The 2.1-litre engine has been fully rebuilt, which, according to the paperwork, was carried out in late 2015. The engine fires up with a little choke and comes to a smooth idle, running with no issues reported. Also given a full rebuild was the transmission, which is a four-speed gearbox with overdrive operated via the column-mounted lever. All the switchgear appears to be original and looks to be in good condition, working as it should, with no problems reported. There is a period radio cassette player fitted, but the original radio is also included. It's safe to say the comprehensive history suggests the TR4A has led a no-expense-spared life, with plenty of parts purchased, invoices, and detailed letters and notes showing work carried out. This is a fantastic opportunity to sit yourself behind the wheel of a great British classic that has seen a full restoration, including a new chassis and full engine and gearbox rebuild. It is simply a ready-to-run classic car itching to be used. We’ve carried out our usual seller checks, including photo ID and V5 verification, as well as a history check on the vehicle. This is a professional HPI check that will highlight if the car has previously been stolen, recorded as being involved in an accident, or has any outstanding finance. Please note, this does not include a mileage history check. We’ve summarised our own view of the car based on information provided by the seller; however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video each car in high-resolution detail so you can make your own assessment from the comfort of your home. So please sit back, have a cuppa, and take your time reviewing everything in this listing. Viewings are also welcomed on all our listings. Please get in touch to arrange a suitable time; we just need to speak to you first and receive valid photo ID before confirming. If there’s anything you’re unsure about, no matter how small, please ask the owner in the comments section before placing your bids, as bids cannot be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car, just like at a traditional auction house. The suspension on the TR4A was given an overhaul in 2018/19. The result is that the car rides very well, with no knocks or bangs noted on our drive. At the same time as the suspension refresh, the brakes were given the once-over too - these bring the car to a stop in a straight line, with no issues reported. Fitted with the original three-spoke steering wheel, this has some light patina in keeping with the age of the TR4A.
