Highlights
Rare - one of roughly 1,000 968 Cabriolets brought to the UK
Striking metallic blue over a two-tone blue and pale grey leather cabin
Benefitting from a documented full respray in 2005
Low mileage
Effortless four-speed Tiptronic for relaxed open-top touring
Overview
Porsche's 968 was the final flourish of the front-engined, rear-drive transaxle bloodline that began with the 924 and 944. Built for just three years from 1991, only 12,776 were made worldwide, and its 3.0-litre four-cylinder with VarioCam variable valve timing serves up 240bhp. The Cabriolet joined the range in 1992, and with roughly a thousand brought to the UK it remains a genuinely scarce open-top Porsche.
This 1992 example makes an immediate impression, finished in metallic blue over a distinctive two-tone cabin of pale grey leather and navy blue trim. The paintwork looks deep and even thanks to a documented full respray in 2005, and it sits on 17-inch Porsche Cup alloys. It's the sort of colour combination that turns the 968's elegant lines into something a little special.
With the four-speed Tiptronic doing the shifting, this is a relaxed and effortless companion for top-down touring, whether that's a spirited B-road run or an unhurried summer cruise. A comprehensive file of stamps and invoices from Porsche main dealer AFN and respected marque specialists sits behind it. Showing under 40,000 miles and presenting beautifully inside and out, it's ready to be enjoyed from the moment you turn the key.

Timing and balance belts renewed with new oil seals, most recently by Strasse in 2011 so we’d recommend that a buyer budgets to have it done again for peace of mind

Interior
Distinctive two-tone cabin, with pale grey leather seats and door inserts set against a navy blue dashboard, carpets and trim
Electrically adjustable sports seats in perforated leather, showing only light wear
Front seats were retrimmed in leather in 2006
Blue leather-rimmed steering wheel with Porsche airbag, showing light surface wear
We note that the passenger sun visor vanity mirror is cracked

Classic pop-up headlights with colour-coded bumpers, door handles and mirrors
Body panels present well with consistent shut lines
Electrically operated soft-top, with the folded hood covered by a fitted tonneau
17-inch Porsche Cup alloy wheels in very good order

Amber front indicators and an integrated rear light bar with PORSCHE script
Minor scuff to the edge of the driver's wing mirror
Mechanical
3.0-litre four-cylinder with VarioCam variable valve timing, producing 240bhp and around 225 lb ft of torque
Drive to the rear wheels through Porsche's four-speed Tiptronic transaxle
0-62mph in around 7.9 seconds and a top speed of about 153mph
Major service completed by Strasse in September 2022, taking in spark plugs, filters and a brake fluid change; a minor service is probably warranted at this stage to refresh the oil
Battery around 18 months old and kept on a trickle charger over winter
The vendor tells us it starts, runs and stops well and sounds good
Summary
Beautifully presented and genuinely scarce, this 968 Cabriolet pairs the timeless appeal of an open-top Porsche with a standout metallic blue and pale grey colour scheme and the easy manners of the four-speed Tiptronic. It's been looked after with a comprehensive file of specialist history, and at under 40,000 miles it’s barely run in.
