Description

KEY FACTS

  • A charming classic British roadster, this Morgan 4/4 is presented in an eye-catching Safari Yellow and green colour scheme.
  • It is powered by a carburettor-fed 1.6-litre inline-four engine, driving the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.
  • This Morgan was ordered by and built for Phil Reed, a resident of California, USA, who had a significant private collection of classic cars. It was shipped to America and was first registered in 1976. The 4/4 was the favourite car of Reed’s niece, and after he died in 2018, the car passed to her, subsequently being shipped to the UK. It has therefore remained in single family ownership for its entire life.
  • It was sent directly from the USA to the Morgan factory in the UK for recommissioning, with instructions to keep as much of the originality as possible.
  • The odometer shows just 4,058 miles, which the seller states is the genuine total.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • This 4/4 is finished in Safari Yellow with a green soft top roof, over a green leather-trimmed interior.
  • It rides on a set of 15-inch cross-spoke wire wheels finished in chrome with two-eared knock-offs, fitted with Continental Contact tyres.
  • Equipment includes a tonneau cover, wet weather gear, and side screens.
  • The car is accompanied by two keys, the handbook and sales brochures, various invoices, and a detailed story of the car and a biography of its long-term first owner, including 1976 build photographs.

CONDITION

  • Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition.
  • Specific notes from the seller include: The paintwork is original. There is some paint flaking above the Morgan badge on the nose of the bonnet, along with small stone chips near both bonnet catches. The nearside door has some minor blemishes and areas of paint flaking, while there is a small scratch on the top of the nearside rear wheel arch. The offside door also shows some slight blemishes and paint flaking, and there is a stone chip on the top of the offside rear wheel arch. The rear of the car presents well overall. Two of the body-mounted twist catches used to secure the tonneau cover are missing. The interior remains completely original. The upper section of the driver's seat has cracked and split, which I understand was caused by the air conditioning drying the leather while the car was displayed in a museum. The driver's seat base also shows age-related wear and cracking. The passenger seat remains in good condition, with only light wear to the upper rear section. There are two minor scuffs on the passenger side of the dashboard, while the carpets present in a manner consistent with the age of the car. The door cards remain in good order. The tonneau cover is present, although some of its securing clips are missing. The lower trim on the driver's door has some perishing to the leather covering over the rubber section. The hood and side screens are both in good condition.
  • The car’s last MOT test took place on 19 August 2019 at 2,897 miles, resulting in a first-time pass with no advisories.
  • The vehicle is understood to be exempt from mandatory MOT testing due to its age.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • The latest service was carried out during August 2019 at an indicated 2,817 miles by AR Motorsport Malvern (Morgan). The work consisted of a service and overhaul, including replacement of the axle seals, brakes, tyres, hoses, seals, gaskets, fuel lines, and fuel tank gaskets. The fuel tank was also cleaned and refurbished.
