The Appeal
The MG TC is widely credited with igniting America's enthusiasm for the European sports car, a task that would save the British car industry during the challenging post-war years. With its upright radiator grille, sweeping wings and capable 1,250cc XPAG engine, the TC distilled the pre-war MG formula into a car that captured the imagination of a generation. Driving one demands attentiveness and rewards involvement.
This 1949 example benefits from a comprehensive restoration carried out between 1983 and 1989, with invoices and photographic evidence accompanying the car. As the photographs attest, the restoration has held up very well indeed.
During the current ownership, which began in July 2023, further mechanical attention has been carried out as detailed below. The vendor states the car presents in very good order overall, with only one or two minor chips or wear marks from use, and the interior is reported to be in similarly fine condition. The car comes with a collection of parts invoices, receipts and historical paperwork beyond the restoration documentation.
