Description

Highlights

  • Unfortunately having to be re run due to winning bidder being unable to complete
  • Appeared as cover car of "The big fords" by Dave Turner
  • Recently serviced with new battery, plugs, points and oil filter
  • Cruises at 60mph despite having only three gears
  • Originally imported from Ireland

The Appeal

The Zephyr Zodiac was Ford's upmarket offering during the early 1950s, featuring two-tone paint, a more powerful engine and a raft of luxury extras over the standard Zephyr model.
This 1953 Zodiac evokes the optimistic spirit of postwar Britain in its jolly '50s colour scheme. Having recently received maintenance attention, including a service with new plugs, points, and a battery, this car is a good, usable example.

History and Paperwork

  • RHD example first registered in 1953, originally from Ireland, we are told
  • 92,895 miles indicated
  • Current owner acquired the car recently; previous owner kept the car for three years
  • Two former registered keepers, we are told
  • Stored in a garage during the previous ownership period

The Condition

  • Vehicle is nearly 75 years old and therefore there are some cosmetic blemishes
  • Sills at the bottom require attention
  • Paintwork generally looks fresh with a few small chips
  • Recommended for buyers to have an auto body specialist buff and touch up small areas
  • Interior in good condition
  • Red leather seats show some signs of wear, but are comfortable, the vendor tells us
  • All switches and instruments are reportedly in working order
  • Appears sturdy underneath; very little surface rust, the vendor comments

The Mechanics

  • 2.3-litre OHV straight-six
  • Three-speed manual transmission
  • Reportedly starts first time on cold start and the gears transition smoothly
  • Can cruise at 60mph on motorway, the vendor coments
  • Performed well on a recent 1-hour journey
  • Recent maintenance includes a service with oil filter replacement
  • New plugs and points fitted
  • New battery installed
  • Exhaust appears to have been recently replaced

✓ We want a smooth transaction just as much as you do and as such we run all UK-registered cars and motorbikes for sale on Car & Classic through an online HPI check to verify that they show no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and have no finance owing, allowing you to bid with confidence.

✓ We also check whether vehicles are recorded as being written off as part of an insurance total loss claim at the time an advert is placed on Car & Classic and we helpfully provide write-off category labels (Cat C/D/S/N) for your assistance. However, the presence or absence of a label does not guarantee the vehicle’s status and it is always worthwhile carrying out your own full vehicle history check before making an offer on a vehicle.
