Description

Background:

Mercedes-Benz has a long tradition of producing luxurious, high-performance coupés, and the CL-Class represented the top of the range during the early 2000s. The CL600 (W216/C216 generation), produced between 2006 and 2014, was the pinnacle 'business jet for the road' luxury grand tourer. Positioned as the pillarless coupé counterpart to the flagship W221 S-Class, it combined immense V12 performance with a library-quiet cabin and cutting-edge mid-2000s electronics.

Motivation was provided by a 5.5-litre twin-turbo (BiTurbo) V12 petrol engine (M275) offering 517bhp at 5,000rpm and 612lb/ft of torque from just 1,800rpm all fed through a five-speed automatic transmission and enabling 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and a (limited) 155mph.

The striking pillarless design features a sweeping side profile with completely unobstructed glass windows when rolled down (no B-pillar) over a sumptuous interior trimmed with Passion Exclusive leather across the entire dashboard and door trims, an Alcantara suede roof lining, and a high-gloss natural wood steering wheel.

State of the art technology included Active Body Control (ABC), Night Vision Assist, Distronic radar cruise control, parking sensors, a reversing camera, active heated and ventilated massaging front seats, dual-zone climate control, and soft-close automatic doors and boot.

The Car:

Dating from 2006, this striking Obsidian Black example has covered an indicated 76,600 miles and, importantly for a car of this complexity, is accompanied by a good and well-documented service history.

The original service book contains a succession of stamped entries, including servicing by Mercedes-Benz main dealers and independent specialists over the years, providing useful supporting evidence of the maintenance carried out throughout the car's life. More recent documentation demonstrates continued investment in the CL, including the fitment of new batteries in 2025. An invoice from Klasse of Fulham dated June 2025 records expenditure of £3,000 at 75,430 miles, including attention to the engine management system and replacement of various components including spark plugs, oxygen sensors, damper valve and engine mountings. Further expenditure during 2026 includes attention to the sunroof cassette by Bavarian Engineering and work associated with the front brakes.

Documented servicing includes:

  • 06/11/2009 - 7,002 miles - Service - Mercedes-Benz Brentford
  • 26/10/2011 - 14,958 miles - Service - Mercedes-Benz Brentford
  • 02/04/2013 - 25,875 miles - Service - Mercedes-Benz Brentford
  • 08/01/2014 - 28,567 miles - Service - Mercedes-Benz Heathrow
  • 06/10/2014 - 41,100 miles - Service - Mercedes-Benz Watford
  • 22/06/2015 - 50,132 miles - Service - Mercedes-Benz Watford
  • 11/03/2016 - 59,962 miles - Service - Mercedes-Benz Watford
  • 10/04/2017 - 71,974 miles - Service - Mercedes-Benz Watford
  • 05/06/2026 - 75,966 miles - Gearbox service, differential service, washer pump replaced - Mercedes-Benz Solihull

This recent maintenance is complemented by a current MOT, issued on 27th February 2026 at 75,589 miles and valid until 26th February 2027, with no advisories.

Condition:

The Obsidian Black bodywork remains in good condition for the car's age and mileage, with excellent shut lines and retaining a good depth of shine. Inside, the fabulous cream leather provides an attractive contrast to the dark exterior and remains a real highlight of the car, creating the appropriately luxurious environment expected of Mercedes-Benz's very stylish coupé.

Naturally, some fair wear and tear should be expected commensurate with a motor car now approaching 20 years old and having covered 76,600 miles. Prospective bidders are encouraged to study the accompanying photographs for a clear indication of its cosmetic condition.

Overall, this remains a well-presented example of the V12-powered CL600, accompanied by the reassuring benefit of its documented maintenance history and recent expenditure.
