Overview
Launched in 1996, the Lotus Elise S1 is the kind of car that reminds you why you fell for driving in the first place. Its fibreglass body sits on a bonded, extruded aluminium chassis weighing just 67kg, so the whole car comes in at about 755kg. Around 10,600 were built up to 2001, and there isn't even an exterior door handle to slow you down.
Power comes from a 1.8-litre Rover K-series four-cylinder making 118bhp and 122lb ft, sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual. Paired with so little mass, that's good for 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds and 124mph flat out. Add unassisted steering and a timeless shape, and you've got a car many regard as among the purest driver's cars of its era.
This 2000 car is finished in yellow, and in 2023 Allon White Sports Cars retrimmed its seats in black leather with Probax inserts. The vendor tells us both factory roofs are included, the colour-matched hardtop and the black soft top, so you're covered whatever the British weather does. It received an S2 suspension upgrade in 2018 and in 2025 it gained a pair of Bilstein rear shock absorbers, two Eibach springs and an uprated aluminium radiator.
A pair of new Hankook rear tyres followed in March 2026, and a file of invoices dating back to 2004 completes the picture. Pick your roof, point it at your favourite B-road and let the K-series sing. With a retrimmed cabin, refreshed rear suspension and cooling, and 44,157 miles on the clock, this is a lovely S1 that's ready to be enjoyed.

- The suspension was upgraded to S2 spec in 2018 by Analogue Automotive
In July 2022 the seller advises that, following a low speed parking incident, a new front clam section was fitted, and paint applied to the bonnet, the left sill and both front doors by a Lotus-authorised body shop
Two sets of keys with Cobra alarm remotes and emergency overrides are included
We're told the original colour-matched factory hardtop comes with its padded storage bag
Also included, per the vendor, is the original factory soft top with a storage bag for the struts
An unused clear PPF set for the rear wheelarches is also part of the sale
Reportedly fitted with a rear uniball toe link set, the car is otherwise standard according to the vendor
The vendor reports a 2024 service with all brake discs and pads replaced by Allon White, though receipts for this are missing
HPI clear

Black leather cabin presents smartly, with light signs of use on the main touch points
Allon White Sports Cars invoice from June 2023 covers retrimming both S1 seats in Muirhead Caledonian black leather with Probax inserts and Keprotech wear patches

Fluted stitched centres with grey double stitching and grey fabric bolster edging
Close-ups show tight seams, no tears and no visible bolster wear, just light creasing on the cushion fronts
White-faced Lotus/Stack instruments, with the LCD showing 44,157 miles
According to the vendor, a Stack-authorised service centre inspected the instrument cluster, found no fault and cleaned the contacts, with no Stack faults since
Leather-rimmed three-spoke Lotus steering wheel shows a light sheen on the rim from use
Polished alloy gear knob with engraved shift pattern
Black door card inserts with alloy Elise window winders and chrome releases
Elise script carpet mats in both footwells, plus drilled alloy pedals and a passenger footrest
Carpeted rear boot
Hardtop's black headlining is intact
We're told everything works as it should

Glossy yellow paintwork, with the doors, mirrors and roll hoop cover in body colour
- The seller advises that the paint code is B36 / "New Mustard Metallic" (AKA "Mustard Yellow Pearlescent" or "Spice Yellow"
Some light surface marks as you would expect at this age and mileage
A few small raised pimples in the paint at the lower rear corner of the nearside door, showing early bubbling
Tiny raised spot on the lower front corner of the offside door, where the vendor reports bubbling
Rear clam shows fine raised specks above a rear wheelarch, consistent with the minor bubbling the vendor reports
Minor cracking to the o/s headlamp lens which the seller reports has been the same since he acquired the car and hasn't worsened over the years
Silver multi-spoke Lotus alloys with Lotus centre caps, 15-inch at the front and 16-inch at the rear, with no kerbing visible
Yokohama C.drive 2 185/55 R15 front tyres, plus a pair of new Hankook Ventus Prime 205/50 R16 rears fitted in March 2026
Black soft top with grey stitching shows light creasing, a small nick in the edge binding at one front corner and some stitching missing which, again, the seller advises has not worsened over the course of his ownership
Factory hard top included
Mechanical
1.8-litre Rover K-series 16v four-cylinder, naturally aspirated, producing 118bhp and 122lb ft
Five-speed manual gearbox
Rear-wheel drive
0-60mph in 5.5 seconds and a 124mph top speed
April 2025 invoice covers a pair of new Bilstein rear shock absorbers and two Eibach springs
At the same time, it gained an uprated aluminium radiator, a Spal upgraded cooling fan and a silicone front hose set
2025 also brought a stainless steel tow post, new flexible exhaust downpipe, new battery, new vehicle speed sensor and re-bonded nearside window mounts
Bell & Colvill's March 2022 invoice covers a cambelt with dynamic tensioner, spark plugs, coolant, gearbox oil, brake fluid, fuel filter and air filter
That same visit saw both track rod ends renewed and a four-wheel alignment carried out
Reportedly, there's a brief chirp on cold start that the vendor puts down to a belt due for replacement, one for the first-weekend jobs list
The vendor also mentions an occasional buzz at certain rpm, which they assume is a panel needing tightening
Ready to enjoy, with the vendor telling us it's driven tight as a drum since the rear shocks and tyres went on
Summary
Light, yellow and gloriously analogue, this S1 pairs a retrimmed black leather cabin with refreshed rear suspension, upgraded cooling and new rear tyres. A file of invoices back to 2004 comes along for the ride. Cars like this are meant to be driven, and this one's ready to go.
