Description

  • The original Renault 4 Plein Air was developed in the late 1960s by Sinpar in conjunction with Renault and was produced in very limited numbers. Its open body, cut-down doors and folding roof transformed the humble Renault 4 into a lightweight recreational vehicle, primarily aimed at the leisure and beach market
  • This example is a Plein Air-style conversion rather than an original factory Plein Air and was imported to the UK from South Africa by its previous owner before being UK registered. It is now presented in very smart, usable condition and retains all the charm of the original concept
  • Extensive recommissioning was undertaken during 2025 by Retro Renault Services, including a skimmed and pressure-tested cylinder head with new water distribution tube, new top ball joints, steering rack gaiters and suspension bushes
  • Further mechanical attention included stripping and cleaning the braking system, fresh engine oil and filter, a reconditioned alternator and installation of a new windscreen, ensuring the little Renault was brought properly up to standard
  • With its simple mechanicals, lightweight construction and open-air character, this Renault would make a wonderfully entertaining beach car, Cotswolds cruiser or promotional vehicle, offering something considerably more unusual than the traditional Mini Moke
  • Offered at a fraction of the cost of many comparable Mini Mokes, this appealing French fancy represents an opportunity to acquire a rare and engaging classic with genuine personality and plenty of potential to put a smile on its next owner's face
