The Appeal

The Mazda RX-7 FD RS Edition is among the most coveted variants of the third-generation RX-7. Stripped of luxuries and focused on driving purity, the RS specification offered a lighter, more driver-oriented package. Those who loved the Wankel Rotary engine found it a very seductive proposition.

This 1997 car was imported from Japan in 2020, where it had six former registered keepers, and has been carefully maintained by its current owner since arriving in the UK. In 2025, it was professionally repainted in its original Chaste White using a modern basecoat and clearcoat system, with new badges, seals and front bumper lights fitted at the same time. The bodywork is described as clean and straight, with only very minor marks from road debris since the respray.

Mechanically, the car has benefited from considerable recent investment. A compression test carried out in June 2026 confirmed healthy engine condition. Extensive preventative work in 2025 included new solenoids, vacuum lines, a water pump and an engine bay refresh. The suspension was refreshed in 2024 with polyurethane bushes and upgraded components, while the braking system was overhauled in 2026 with refurbished calipers, new discs and pads. The twin turbos have also been serviced.

Inside, the front and rear seats have been reupholstered with embroidered Efini logos. Two sets of original mats are included, among them the sought-after cherry blossom style. Largely unmodified, with most changes being easily reversible, this RX-7 RS Edition ticks plenty of boxes and will make a highly rewarding modern classic.
