The Appeal
The W124 and its C124 pillarless coupe cousin are amongst the last of the engineering-led era, cars driven by excellence rather than budgets. That likely explains why 33 year old cars like this E220 have survived so well. It has been used regularly and work well as a weekend treat or daily driver.
The vendor tells us that the car was factory supplied with £12,000 of options, including the desirable Sportline chassis that sharpens up the driving dynamics. This package includes lower ride height, stiffer spring and damper rates, thicker anti-roll bars, and stiffer bushings. The Nautical Blue metallic paintwork with beige leather is generally well-kept for its age, and nicely detailed with lighter ‘Sacco Planks,’ a rare rear spoiler and attractive alloy wheels.
Recent work included a full service and brake checkover. The crankshaft position sensor has also been replaced. There are a few points to note in the description, which could either be lived with or improved.
With MOT valid to May 2027, this practical and stylish E220 is ready to go.
The vendor says:
Original owner has been in touch and confirmed £12,000 worth of factory extras were ordered when purchased from new, including Sportline chassis which transforms the handling. Overall a great looking classic that drives well with an impressive number of factory extras.
There are 32 service stamps in the booklet, all but 6 from Mercedes. During initial years the car was fastidiously maintained often with up to 3 main dealer services per year. The last stamp in the book was 2019 after which it was dry stored."
