Description
KEY FACTS
- A characterful and increasingly sought-after classic Japanese sports coupe, this Datsun 260Z reportedly benefits from an extensive restoration completed in 2018.
- It is now powered by a naturally aspirated 2.8-litre inline-six, driving the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.
- This original UK-market example was first registered in May 1974 and has been with the seller since 2017.
- The seller states that the car underwent a comprehensive restoration in 2018, including a full engine rebuild, refurbishment of the gearbox, and a complete bare-metal respray.
- The odometer indicates 70,697 miles, though this is not warranted.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
- This 260Z is finished in an attractive shade of blue, over a black leather and vinyl-trimmed interior, punctuated by chrome and wood veneer trim.
- It rides on a set of 14-inch Wolfrace five-spoke ‘Slot Mag’ polished alloy wheels fitted with Hankook Kinergy Evo tyres.
- Equipment includes a ducktail rear spoiler, a wood-rimmed Mountney steering wheel, a wooden gear knob, a heated rear screen, an analogue clock, and heater and ventilation controls.
- The car has also been enhanced with a stainless-steel exhaust system, a high-torque starter motor, a high-output alternator, a modern retro-style stereo with DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity, and four-wheel disc brakes.
- The rear bumper has been removed.
- The sale will include invoices relating to the restoration and engine rebuild, along with two sets of keys and the V5C.
CONDITION
- Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition.
- Specific notes from the seller include: the car received a full respray in 2018. There are three small stone chips, located on the edge of the driver's door, behind the passenger's door, low down, and on the scuttle panel near the wipers. Some minor blemishes on the tops of the front wings.
SERVICE HISTORY
- The seller states that in 2018 the engine was completely rebuilt by Enthuse with new pistons, piston rings, bearings, pumps, seals, spark plugs, fresh oil and filter.
- In April 2026, technicians at Fourways Engineering replaced the fuel pump and rectified non-starting issues.
- Over £3,000 of further maintenance work was carried out by Fourways Engineering in April 2026, including the installation of new front brake callipers, a new fuel pump, and a replacement door frame.
- The seller reports that the underside was stripped, with removable components shot blasted, powder-coated in black and protected with 3M Schutz underbody coating.
- The twin carburettors were reportedly rebuilt by BD Engineering in Kent.
SUMMARY
This Datsun 260Z is an appealing example of one of Japan's most iconic classic sports cars, reportedly presented following an extensive restoration that included a comprehensive engine rebuild, body restoration and significant mechanical refurbishment. Reportedly having covered only around 1,000 miles since the work was completed, it offers an attractive combination of classic styling, a charismatic straight-six engine and substantial recent investment. It would make a rewarding addition to any collection of classic Japanese performance cars, equally suited to weekend road trips, enthusiast events, and classic car shows.
