Description

Quite possibly the best-looking M3 variants ever produced – wouldn’t you agree?

Paint

There’s only really one colour that is associated with an M3, and that is Estoril Blue, which looks amazing and is in fantastic condition. There are a very small number of age-related stone chips on the lower bumper and leading edge of the wings, as you would expect. However, with that said, these are very, very light chips made more visible by white polish.

The images are taken from a range of angles to show the car as you would see it in person, so please take the time to fully assess the high-resolution photos and videos before forming your own opinion of the paintwork.

Bodywork

Walking around the beautiful M3 and admiring the fantastic shape of the E46, all of the panel gaps appear to be equal, and no dings or dents were spotted.

We’ve highlighted our observations in more detail through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take the time to review all media files to assess the car’s condition for yourself.

Dashboard

The M3’s dashboard is free from any noticeable scuffs or scratches. It is finished with the rare and stunning satin-finish wood trim, which is all in excellent condition.

The glovebox holds the factory torch (which remains fully functions) and even the BMW tinned peppermint sweets (although these are slightly past their use-by date).

The instruments are working correctly, with no warning lights displayed, and the odometer shows ~46,767 miles.

The drive

In 2000, the M-Sport designers did it again… capturing the appeal of BMW’s M Division perfectly with the E46 M3. The naturally aspirated 3.2-litre straight-six loves to rev, delivering its ~343 bhp with a distinctive induction roar as the revs climb.

The precise gear change, well-weighted steering and balanced rear-wheel-drive chassis combine to make a true driver's car that is very rewarding.

Glass and trim

The windows are in excellent condition, with no noticeable scratches or marks to point out. There are some very small age-related cracks in the rubber strip at the bottom of the windscreen, but it could very easily be replaced.

The headlights, fog lights, and rear lights are all in excellent condition, with no cracks or splits to the lenses.

Please view the photos and video below to review the condition of the glass and trim for yourself.

Wheels and tyres

Fitted with the original factory-fit 19-inch CSL alloy wheels, which are in superb condition with no signs of damage or corrosion.

OEM-specification Continental tyres are fitted, and they're even stamped M3. They have a good amount of tread remaining, but David says they are approximately ~10 years old.

Please take the time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels and tyres, so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn or over 10 years old.

Seats and carpets

The Nappa leather electric front seats are in excellent condition, with no damage or signs of heavy use. Both door cards are also in excellent condition, as is the rear seat, which doesn’t look to have been used much in its life.

The carpets throughout are in excellent condition, with no real signs of age, thanks to a full set of fitted mats.

Inside the boot, the original tool kit is complete, and the original tyre compressor is in place.

Engine and gearbox

With the turn of the key, the 3.2-litre engine fires up without hesitation or untoward noises. The car runs superbly, and no known issues have been reported by David.

The six-speed gearbox has a precise change, and is perfectly suited to the 3.2-litre engine, making this certainly one for true drivers who appreciate a manual driving experience.

David told us a BMW independent specialist remarked on low the engine's emissions were, confirming engine in excellent condition, and 97 octane super unleaded always used in his ownership.

Electrics and other

All of the switchgear is in excellent condition, with no real signs of age on the switches. The original satellite navigation system is in place, and a disc is included.

The air conditioning is also working correctly, having been regassed last year.

History and paperwork

The history file for the M3 is extensive and very impressive - and yes, it includes the running-in service.

Over his ~10 years of ownership, this M3 has wanted for nothing. To put it simply, if David thought it needed something, it got it, with no questions asked.

A recent recall by BMW for an airbag inspection has been completed. They also checked over the car to give it a clean bill of health.

Attention BMW enthusiasts: this is one for your collection! Having covered only an indicated ~46,767 miles, an excellent service and maintenance history helps verify this stunning original example.

This M3 is sure to draw a lot of attention, and rightly so. It really is something quite special.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Suspension and brakes

On the road, the M3 handles just as it should, feeling very planted and very tight, with no knocks or bangs.

The brakes are a factory upgrade to CSL brakes, which are of a larger diameter and bring the car to a stop in a straight line, with no issues reported.

David has fitted EBC Yellowstuff brake pads, which give a reassuring feel through the pedal.

Steering wheel gear stick

The original M-Sport multifunction leather steering wheel is in good order, with minimal signs of age.

There is a light amount of wear to the gear knob, which is in keeping with the age and mileage.
