The Appeal
The Aero 8 was a step change. Morgan had tried radical before, but the new car cleverly blended rather than eschewed the old with the new. Featuring traditional materials with lightweight aluminium and BMW technology, it forced a serious rethink on what a Morgan could look like and how it could perform.
The final Series 4 cars, of which just 178 were built, got a serious power upgrade thanks to BMW’s 4.8L V8. It delivered 315bhp/tonne and scintillating performance. This beautiful Series 4 left the works in 2009 and is exquisitely finished in Rolls-Royce Velvet Green with Biscuit leather interior.
The car has had just two UK keepers from new, both of whom have clearly cherished it. Alongside the run of Morgan main dealer and specialist service history, the car has been entered into numerous prestigious car shows and Concours D’Elegance, including an invitation to Hampton Court.
It presents very well in photos and comes with the added reassurance of a lengthy, advisory-free MOT.
The vendor says:
“This being the top-of-the-range Morgan 'Flagship Model', the Aero 8, a revelation for Morgan, it's first all-new design since the mid-1960s. Automatic 6-speed with manual over-ride. The Aero 8 is as impressive now as it was then. For the first time, Morgan had deployed an aluminium chassis and worked with BMW, not only to gain access to their extensive testing facilities, but also to source a V8 heart.
“Despite being an all-new model, the Aero 8 didn't stray too far away from traditional Morgan styling, swooping lines of the 1930s are accented by subtly extended wheel arches, narrowing rear end and at the front, a very traditional Morgan grille sits proudly in front of a traditionally louvred bonnet.
“This Aero 8 is a Series IV, supplied new in 2009 it was ordered in an incredibly tasteful specification. Rolls-Royce Velvet Green over a full Biscuit leather interior.
“Chosen to be on display at The Hampton Court Concours of Elegance, and was judged by HRH Prince Michael of Kent in 2021. Sold with rosette prize awards. 'Cowfold Country Classic Car Show' award, Eastbourne 'Magnificent Motors' , Isle of Wight Concours d' Elegance and display at Queen Victoria's church.
“This Morgan was exported to Germany not long after its delivery in 2009; it was repatriated some ten years later. It is a piece of British motoring history, with supercar performance, and German reliability. It could be the perfect combination.
“Accepted entry into the very prestigious Hampton Court Concours of Elegance by invitation only. It was invited to be on display at the most high end of events of the year at The Hampton Court Concours of Elegance reviewed by HRH Prince Michael of Kent and other well-known car experts. This is the English equivalent of the American Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.”

“The black fabric roof was replaced in 2012 at a cost of just under £1, 000.
“On the inside, bucket seats offer the driver enough support, whilst still retaining a decent level of comfort. There is a wide array of machined aluminium components too, the door handles, handbrake lever and surround and of course the turned dashboard. But what Morgan interior would be complete without some wood? None, that's why this one has a wooden top dash rail, door cappings and door armrests. Morgan really pulled out all the stops, even trimming the plastic steering column cowling in black leather to further cement the quality experience.”
