The Appeal
Of all the manufacturers we’ve lost in recent decades, Saab’s absence is perhaps the most keenly felt. Always an innovator, even when they were subsumed into the General Motors family, Saab’s quirky approach to car design and their relentless focus on safety means any model bearing that circular blue badge remains sought-after to this day.
The 95 Aero was a fine car in its own right, but this one has been elevated by the fitment of a Hirsch Performance kit. Boosting the power to 300bhp, these modifications were carried out when the car was brand-new, including a replacement exhaust system, fuel pressure regulator and intake system, plus software calibration.
The car received a new intercooler, three-inch stainless steel exhaust system with twin pipes, 18-inch Hirsch alloys and branded pedals. It now has 345mm front brakes with vented discs and pads all round to restrain its prodigious power. The current owner has recently added a new ignition cassette, handbrake cables, driver’s side driveshaft and gearbox torque mount.
Given its superb mechanicals and overall condition, it’s perhaps unsurprising that this car has been owned by the same family since new. The V5 will show three previous owners only because the dealership had to register it before supplying it to Hirsch; in 2024, it was purchased by the original owner’s son-in-law. Its specification list demonstrates how far ahead of competitors Saab was, with features like xenon lighting and heated electric leather seats highly desirable even in today’s new cars.
This handsome saloon is a modern classic, presented in very good condition. It has some damage to the boot lining and wear across the driver’s seat and handbrake, but the black exterior paintwork is very well preserved, barring a small dent below the rear spoiler, and the supremely comfortable black leather seats have also worn the years exceptionally well. In truth, you wouldn’t expect anything else from a Saab.
