Description
KEY FACTS
- This Ferrari 512 BBi is a charismatic and highly sought-after flat-12-powered mid-engined supercar, representing the final evolution of Ferrari’s Berlinetta Boxer lineage.
- It is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.9-litre flat-12 engine, driving the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.
- This left-hand drive example is understood to be a European-specification model, which was then imported into the US shortly after it was built. Noted to have been first registered in April 1983, it was imported into the UK and first registered with the DVLA in November 2017.
- The odometer indicates 14,858 km, though this is not warranted.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
- The 512 BBi introduced Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, improving usability and reliability over the earlier carburetted Berlinetta Boxer models, while retaining the dramatic styling and flat-12 character.
- This 512 BBi is finished in the timeless shade of Nero, over a matching Nero leather-trimmed interior, punctuated by silver and chrome trim.
- It rides on a set of 16-inch (415mm) five-spoke alloy wheels finished in silver with chrome hubcaps, fitted with Michelin TRX tyres.
- Equipment includes pop-up headlights, a top-tinted windscreen, a Momo steering wheel, a Pioneer cassette stereo with equaliser controls, electric windows, Veglia Borletti gauges, and air conditioning.
- The car has been modified, including the fitment of a new left-hand-drive steering rack to address play in the track rod end.
- It will be supplied with a jack, the owner’s manuals in a Ferrari-branded wallet, the V5C, two keys, a black leather DK Engineering-branded document folder, and a collection of maintenance invoices.
CONDITION
- Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition.
- The car’s last MOT test was conducted on 12 August 2022 at an indicated 13,759 km, which resulted in a second-time pass with an advisory for slight oil leaks from the engine and gearbox, but not excessive.
SERVICE HISTORY
- This 512 BBi’s most recent maintenance was carried out in June 2024 at an indicated 13,958 km by DK Engineering, which consisted of a major service and cambelt change, leaking fuel lines being replaced, all new fuel pipe jubilee clips fitted, fluids being refilled, a secondary fuel leak being rectified, new air and fuel filters, the spark plugs replaced, new drive belts, an air conditioning recharge, and new tyres being fitted.
- An annual service was carried out in December 2020 by DK Engineering, which included an engine oil and filter change, the coolant being topped up, the differential and gearbox oils being changed, the speedometer being overhauled, and the brake fluid being changed.
- Another annual service was carried out in April 2019 at an indicated 12,864 km by H.R.Owen Ferrari.
SUMMARY
This Ferrari 512 BBi is an appealing example of the final and most refined iteration of the Berlinetta Boxer, combining dramatic styling with the usability benefits of fuel injection. Presented in a timeless colour combination, it is a particularly discreet take on one of Ferrari’s most iconic flat-12 supercars. With recent specialist attention, it would make a compelling addition to any collection of analogue supercars, and a rewarding companion for spirited road driving or display at enthusiast events.
