The Appeal

The Triumph 2.5PI Mk2 was the flagship of the Triumph saloon range: a fuel-injected, inline six-cylinder sporting saloon that married Michelotti's elegant Italian lines with wood-trimmed British craftsmanship. The result was a seriously suave car that was capable of turning heads as readily as anything from the continent. In manual overdrive form, it offered a refined and effortless driving experience, and today these cars are increasingly hard to find in honest, well-preserved condition.

This particular example has a fascinating provenance. Assembled at Triumph's Belgian plant in Mechelen, it was delivered new to its first owner in Lisbon on 20th December 1972. It later made its way to France, west of Lyon, in 2018, where the paintwork was refreshed in its current metallic grey. A new metering unit was fitted, and the injectors were serviced at the same time. The current keeper imported the car to the UK in 2021 and has since undertaken a careful programme of sympathetic fettling, returning various details to factory specification and addressing mechanical items as outlined in The Detail section below.

The vendor describes the engine as refined, quick, and smooth, with a supple ride and a gear change and overdrive that shift nicely. Accompanying the car is a thorough documentation file covering its history across Portugal, France, and the UK.
