The Appeal
Nobody quite expected the Camargue. It was the first productionised collaboration between Rolls-Royce and Pininfarina and its chiselled, modern lines looked markedly different from anything that had every previously emerged from Crewe. It was the most expensive production car in the world and it would go on to influence the style of the firm’s ‘SZ’ saloons.
Just 529 were built, each costing the equivalent of close to quarter of a million pounds. Looking at this exceptionally low mileage LHD car, one of the last built, you can see where all that money went. It is a paean to the coachbuilder’s art, particularly the sumptuous hand-crafted interiors with their wood and leather.
Beautifully finished in light green with a rare avocado green leather cabin, this car has recently arrived from the dry, cossetting climes of Kuwait. It appears to be largely original, the preserved interior showing a light and characterful patina of age. Chassis records confirm that it was one of the last Camargues built.
Now UK registered, it is DVLA recorded as a Historic Vehicle so is usefully MOT, tax and ULEZ exempt. The vendor tells us that it would benefit from a service and being used.
