Description

Highlights

  • Escort ‘sleeper’ saloon with 2L Pinto and 5spd box
  • Original UK RHD example
  • Solid shell reportedly requiring no welding
  • Stored in dry storage for approximately 13 years
  • Starts, runs and drives
  • Deep dish 13in steels, Recaro seats and Momo wheel
  • Original tan front seats and factory wheel supplied with the car

The Appeal

If you love the idea of a 70s Fast Ford, but maybe lack the deep pockets now needed for an RS2000 or Mexico, then here’s the solution. This standard-looking Mk1 four-door will also appeal to those who prefer to deliver surprises, whether at the traffic lights or car shows.

Beneath the bonnet of what looks like, and is still badged as, a 1300L Automatic lies a rebuilt 2L Pinto paired with a Type 9 five-speed gearbox, uprated 2.8 Capri struts and brakes, a relocated battery, and GAZ rear shock absorbers. Only the deep-dish Ford 13in steels slightly give the game away. Look inside, and there is a pair of figure-hugging Recaros up front and a Momo wheel. If you fancy really dialling things down, the original front seats and wheel are included.

The colour change to white and the mechanical work were reportedly done some years ago, since when it has been in storage for 13 years. Some preparation has been done for a respray, as you can see in the photos. Mechanically, the car is said to start and run, but could do with a tune-up due to lack of use. There are also a few small jobs noted by the vendor below.

For the right enthusiast, here is a chance to complete an interesting project where someone else has put in all the hard graft.

The vendor says:

“A 'sleeper' that can keep up with modern daily use on the roads and still take the young family to a classic car show at the weekend.”
