The Appeal

Volvo played a key role in establishing the cult of the high-performance estate, and the V70 R AWD is part of a proud lineage. Larger in every dimension and more spacious that the model it replaced, this generation stuck to the successful formula of capacious estate bodyshell, charismatic turbocharged five-cylinder engine and outstanding safety credentials. To harness the power and torque, only all-wheel drive was offered, and the new model featured ‘Active Chassis’ suspension that allowed the driver to select from three different settings, as well as large Brembo brakes.

This is a 2005 model, originally registered in Japan, and equipped with the five-speed automatic transmission. It was imported to the UK by the seller in 2022, registered in 2023, and had its information screen converted to English and odometer converted to read miles in 2025 (note that the speedometer remains in km/k). It supplied with its rare Japanese service book.

The black exterior of this car features the original 18-inch five-spoke ‘Pegasus’ R-branded alloy wheels and ‘R’-branded brake callipers, as well as the subtle rear tailgate/roof lip spoiler. The seller reports some age-related marks, plus faded paint on the front bumper; they also note that, unlike some Japanese domestic models of the time, this car was undersealed before shipment.

Inside, the dark blue leather upholstery features the usual wear and signs of ageing. It is complemented by blue-backed dials and metal treadplates and pedals.

Since the seller took ownership, they have fitted several new components, including original specification front shock absorbers, a new cambelt and auxiliary drivebelt, and a new battery.

The seller describes this car as “very nice to drive” – it’s now time for a new custodian to enjoy its compelling blend of space, effortless performance and inimitable style.
