Description
Raw British engineering: pure mechanical adrenaline applied to the road.
Paint
The paint finish offers even coverage with only mild signs of lustre loss. The gel-coat remains in good condition with no major chips or cracks, aside from light scuffing around the boot lid opening and a few minor storage marks.
The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.
Bodywork
The bodywork is in great condition and shows signs of a professional build. The panels fit flush against the chassis, and the doors open and close smoothly without any rubbing. The fibreglass shell has no visible wear or cracks, though the bonnet catch mechanism will require some attention.
The space frame is in good condition, showing only mild paint wear in a few areas, but it remains solid and fit for purpose. The suspension mounts and floor pan are also in good shape, with no issues found in either the engine bay or the luggage area.
We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.
Dashboard
The fascia is in good condition and features a fully functional ETB Instruments digital binnacle. All controls and switches remain in good shape.
An unfitted dashboard top cover is included with the car, and will need fitting.
The door cards and cabin trim are complete and clean.
The drive
In the UK kit car, hillclimb, and clubman racing scenes, a genuine Dunnell engine represents gold-standard engineering. Paul Dunnell is widely regarded as one of the absolute foremost authorities on the Ford Zetec block. The 1.8-litre Ford Zetec engine enjoys a solid reputation as a simple, durable, and budget-friendly 16-valve inline-four powerplant.
Delivering the feel of an ultra-lightweight, old-school British sports car, its featherweight agility and responsive acceleration make the Ginetta ideal for spirited short blasts or weekend hillclimbs. Due to the car's lack of an MOT and its long-term storage, we were not treated to the thrills of the Ginetta.
Glass and trim
The windscreen and seal are in good condition, and all lights and lenses show no noted issues. The trim is in good shape, and Luke has told us that the car comes with its weather protection.
Wheels and tyres
The 15-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, featuring a carbon-look finish, are in good condition despite mild storage wear.
The front and rear of the car are fitted with premium, soft-compound semi-slick track Yokohama Advan Neova AD08RS tyres and show a spec of 195/50R15; these are date-coded from 2019. They all have even tread and are in good shape.
Please take time to review the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior, wheels, and tyres so you can make your own assessment of their condition. Tyres are a key safety item, and you should consider replacing any that are cracked, perished, unevenly worn, or over 10 years old.
Seats and carpets
The seats are in excellent condition and come equipped with four-point harnesses.
The carpets are fully intact and show no signs of wear.
Engine and gearbox
The engine turned over with power assistance and initially ran a little unevenly, suggesting it would benefit from a service and tune-up. A minor hissing noise was detected from the engine, but it soon settled into a smooth idle with no unwanted knocks, pops, or bangs. The exhaust remained smoke-free on startup, though a small amount of valve stem seal oil smoke was noted when pressing the accelerator. The dashboard warning lights stayed off throughout.
The Zetec engine features a fuel injection system equipped with a VGS 4-branch manifold and ITG filters. The "23B95" engine stamp on the block indicates it is a 2023 Dunnell build. This allows the next owner to reference the code in Dunnell’s master workshop database to verify piston sizes, compression ratio, valve sizes, camshaft profiles, and the specific dyno map. It's got a programmable Omex ECU fitted to the engine too.
All hoses, ancillaries, and surrounding components are in good condition, with no evidence of leaks observed during inspection.
While the gearbox was not fully road-tested, Luke confirmed that it engages all gears correctly and that the clutch operates smoothly without issue.
Electrics and other
It would be advisable for the next owner to test and check the cars electrical system.
History and paperwork
First registered in May 2019, the car is believed to have been acquired as a built-up kit from new. It comes with a selection of 2019 invoices covering cosmetic, interior, and sundry parts, with the majority supplied by Car Builder Solutions.
The odometer displays zero mileage, and the lack of a current MOT suggests the vehicle was never driven on the open road. Consequently, the next owner will need to trailer the car away and perform a thorough mechanical inspection before use. The car is supplied with a current V5C logbook.
We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.
We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.
If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
Suspension and brakes
Fitted with AVO Motorsport suspension, the car was not dynamically tested on this occasion. However, the overall condition of the components and setup suggests that it is more than capable of handling spirited driving, though some fine-tuning may be required for optimal performance.
The braking system was not fully tested either, but the vehicle rolls freely without binding. The condition of the discs and braided lines indicates they are functional, though a thorough inspection is recommended before road use.
Steering wheel gear stick
The Mountney three-spoke steering wheel is in good condition, though the centre badge is missing.
The aluminium gear lever remains clean and tidy.
