KEY FACTS

  • A charming and elegant classic roadster, this Mercedes-Benz 190SL offers a stylish open-top driving experience.
  • It is powered by a twin-carburetted 1.9-litre inline-four, delivering around 105bhp to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
  • According to the DVLA website, this left-hand drive car was first registered in 1958, before being imported into the UK and re-registered with the DVLA in January 2021.
  • The odometer shows 22,180 miles, but this is not warranted.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • The car is finished in white, with chrome trim elements, a black soft top and a body-coloured hard top roof, over a red leather-trimmed cabin featuring a body-coloured dashboard.
  • It rides on a set of 13-inch wheels, fitted with body-coloured hubcaps and Maxxis MA-1 tyres.
  • Equipment includes a two-spoke steering wheel with chrome horn ring, a lockable glove compartment, an analogue clock, and a Becker Europa radio.
  • The car will be supplied with a 190 SL restoration and ownership manual, a handwritten trade sale receipt dated 2021, the V5C, and some recent maintenance receipts.

CONDITION

  • Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • In March 2018, SRS Engineering re-bored the engine, polished the crankshaft journal, skimmed the cylinder head face, degreased the cylinder head and block, and fitted a new intake, pistons, main bearings, big end bearings, head gasket and stem seals.
  • In January 2018, Mercedes-Benz of Poole replaced the oil slinger, valve seal rings, sliding rail, pins and seal rings.
  • The steering wheel was refurbished and re-chromed by Myrtle Limited in December 2017.
  • A renovation and partial re-trim was completed in October 2017 by Bespoke Leathering.

SUMMARY

The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL made its debut in prototype form at the 1954 New York Auto Show before entering production the following year, setting the template for the popular SL-Class model. Presented in an appealing colour combination, this example would make a charming addition to any collection of classics, and an enjoyable weekend cruiser for any marque enthusiast.
