The Appeal

Here is something a little different, even in the vibrant world of HY Vans. It is an LWB version that was first registered in 1966 and arrived in the UK 11 years ago, since when it has been with the current keeper. What makes it even more unusual is that it is a daily driver and has been maintained properly by Citroen specialists.

As you can see in the photos, this is a classic HY that you could potentially take in many directions. The massive rear load area features fold-down upper sections to one side and the rear, plus the lower sections also fold out to create a sort of ‘stage.’ You could just enjoy a rare classic with loads of lugging potential, or take it in creative directions, offering commercial returns.

The van is largely factory standard save for a re-spray in cream and a replacement engine fitted in 2016. The motor has been sympathetically improved to suit the daily use, including high compression pistons, alternator and starter motor replaced in 2018, new fuel pump a year later and electronic ignition fitted in 2023 to improve reliability. In 2023 a full length stainless steel exhaust was fitted. Other work is recorded in the photos and includes recent coolant flush, attention to the electrics, hatch top repairs, suspension work and brake checks. We’re told that this work and annual servicing have been entrusted to a Citroen specialist.

This is a van that has been used and enjoyed by the current keeper, rather than shined up for shows. Since the mechanicals have been well kept, the buyer could continue that approach or there is scope to improve it. Whatever you choose, this is a rare and interesting prospect for the right buyer.

The vendor says:

The vehicle has been serviced by Citroen specialists every year in my ownership. It’s great fun to drive and brings a smile to everyone’s face! I’ll miss it when it’s gone.
