The Appeal

In the 1980s, Italian supercar makers were falling over themselves to help teenagers decorate their bedroom walls. Where the Countach was perhaps more style than substance, the Testarossa was the real deal - the side strakes and Pininfarina side profile grab your attention, but it was the 4.9-litre flat-12 that delivered.

40 years on, the Testarossa is still one of the most arresting and capable of supercars. Just 438 were built in RHD like this car. It is one of the last of the early models, retaining the centre-lock ‘race style’ five-spoke alloys so beloved of the Tifosi. Classically finished in Rosso Corsa over Crema, it is in collector-quality condition, enhanced by an extensive 2021 respray by the well-regarded specialist Malton Coachworks.

The £13,206 invoice for that work is just one part of an extensive history file that includes invoices back to the first registration and a set of helpful handwritten notes covering 1987 to 2017 created by a previous keeper. The car has been regularly maintained by Ferrari and ‘blue chip’ marque specialists irrespective of mileage. Over £24,000 was spent in 2021 alone on servicing, cam belt replacement, mechanical repairs, and paintwork renovation. During January and February 2026, it was attended to by Gemland Autos and Boxer Tech, including a full service and other repairs. Other notable work includes cam belt changes in 2021 and 2017, and clutch repairs in December 2025. The MOT runs to January 2027 with no advisories.

This well-specified Testarossa ticks all the boxes - condition, provenance and maintenance.

The vendor says:

It's an iconic car of the era, one that features as a poster on many a young man's bedroom wall. Unlike a museum piece, this is a car that has been used but equally very well looked after and is ready for its next owner to enjoy and cherish.”

39 years after this car left Maranello, it is hard not to be wowed by Pininfarina’s lines. The Testarossa's simple profile keeps it looking modern and current, a sense reinforced by the fact that it influenced so many subsequent Ferraris. Naturally, it is finished in Rosso Corsa, which complements the Crema leather cabin. The eagle-eyed will spot the early ‘race style’ five-spoke 16in alloys, an aesthetically pleasing detail that is highly sought after by enthusiasts.

Inside and out, this is a very well-presented car. The exterior was extensively reworked and repainted by Malton Coachworks in 2021, while the interior received new carpets at the same time. The wheels were refurbished and fitted with new tyres in March 2021. Other notable additions include a new heated rear screen in May of that year.

The Mechanics

  • 4.9-litre 180-degree flat-12 engine
  • Five-speed manual transmission
  • Very well maintained with large history file
  • Attended to by Ferrari and well-regarded specialists
  • Summary of maintenance above with more details in photos
  • Cam belt replaced in 2017 and 2021 with 1,500 miles since last work
  • Servicing and other remedial work in January and February 2026
  • No advisories on MOT

The Testarossa’s predecessor, the Berlinetta Boxer, has fooled many into believing its engine is a Boxer unit, but technically it’s a 4.9-litre 180-degree flat-12. It’s one of Maranello’s most complex units, so when buying one of these cars, mechanical reassurance is key.

This car has one of the best history files that we’ve seen for one of these cars in some time. Alongside a detailed servicing invoice,s there is a set of handwritten notes documenting work from 1987 to 2017. Further work is documented above. All work has been undertaken by Ferrari and well-regarded Ferrari specialists, including Boxer Tech, Shiltech, and Gemland.

Considerable investment has been put into the car to prepare it for sale at the highest level. This includes a long list of work from December 2025 to February 2026, including servicing, clutch repairs, and suspension work. There is even an ice clean of the engine bay to bring that mechanical centrepiece up to the same visual standard as the rest of the car.

Finally, independent reassurance is provided by the lengthy, advisory-free MOT.
